"I clearly remember the moment when I became hooked on photography. In the school darkroom, under the red light, as a friend's black and white image of a cricket match magically appeared in the developing tray, something really connected with me; shortly after I bought my first camera, a Zenit B for £15."

Soon after leaving school I began my professional career in the darkrooms of the news agency Camera Press, washing and drying black and white prints. I then went to Johannesburg and worked as assistant to fashion and advertising photographer Steve Hylen. (Steve won an Oscar for technical innovation in 2011).

On returning to London I found work as in-house photographer at the corporate publishing company Group Editors and eventually went freelance. My first break was some commissions from Tatler's arts pages, edited then by Jonathan Meades. A number of my Tatler images are in the collection of the National Portrait Gallery and have won awards from the Association of Photographers (see ARCHIVE). Time Out magazine sent me to Rome to photograph Federico Fellini.

I was then asked to work as stills photographer on the feature film Backbeat. More films followed and this led to work on Gosford Park, Moon, Mrs. Brown and many more (see FILM STILLS).

In 2008 my daughter was born and I moved to Norfolk shortly after.

"These are superb, absolutely stunning, just what we had hoped for. In short, as they say "you have done us proud"... "many thanks for delivering the albums: superb in every detail, every bit as delightful and gratifying as we hoped." Rachel and Martin Scurr

"How can we thank you enough for recording our wedding so beautifully? The pictures are so perfect, you got the balance of formal and informal exactly as we wanted it. It was a joy to have you personally there on the day."Charlotte and Ben Harrison

Mark was wonderful to work with and an incredibly calming influence on the chaos! He made such an effort to make sure we were happy with the finished results, and the pictures are perfect.

"Mark is a consummate professional with great creative flair. He shot the film stills for our feature film uwantme2killhim under a difficult schedule and budget and came through wonderfully delivering an outstanding set of photographs to us for the promotion of the film. I have absolutely no hesitation in recommending him."Simon Crocker, Chairman, The John Kobal Foundation

"Having spoken to Mark and roughly outlined what we needed for a new build website, Mark delivered the photos we asked for brilliantly. We crammed five locations into a 10 hour day's shoot. Mark was enthusiastic and creative in his ideas and the composition of the images. His attention to detail stands out in post production tweaks. We would have no hesitation in recommending Mark, a thorough professional who is fun to work with." Ben White, General Manager, Flood Ark Limited
